More Common Sense

In 1776 Thomas Paine wrote the historic pamphlet Common Sense, outlining the argument for America’s independence.  All these years later, our Nation is due for More Common Sense.

The Government is out of control, spying on its citizens and disregarding the Constitution and Bill of Rights.  Lobbyists buy our leaders votes, influencing our everyday lives.  Our brave servicemen and women are often not being given the adequate care they need and deserve.  The media conceals critical stories and has become a propaganda machine.  The Middle Class is being erased.  Wall Street is awash in corruption and scandals and can take the entire economy down at any moment.  Our democracy is being destroyed.

We must act now, before it is too late.  We must give the power back to the People and restore our great Country.  We cannot fail or it will not just be us who suffer the consequences, but also generations to come.

In 1776 Thomas Paine wrote the pamphlet Common Sense. In plain, direct, poignant language, Paine made his case for America’s independence from Great Britain. I believe, in 2014, with all that is going on with our Country and our Government, it is time for some More Common Sense. It is time, not for independence from a foreign country, but rather independence from the corruption, greed, and intrusion of our own Government.

I have kept this booklet intentionally short. Each chapter can easily be expanded into its own full-length book. And certainly there are other issues going on in the Country that can be discussed and debated at great lengths. However, I have tried to keep its contents to the most pressing issues and what I believe are the most solvable with common sense (though that does not mean it will be easy).

Thomas Paine did not originally sign his name to Common Sense. It was first published as anonymous. Paine wrote: “Who the Author of this production is, is wholly unnecessary to the public, as the object for attention is the doctrine itself, not the man.”

Likewise, More Common Sense is not about me. I am merely the messenger. But Paine also wrote: “Yet it may not be unnecessary to say that [I am] unconnected with any Party, under no sort of influence public or private, but the influence of reason and principle.” I can attest that is true with this author as well.

One of the greatest falsehoods perpetuated by both the Government and mainstream media is that if you are a patriot, if you are a constitutionalist, you are somehow a radical and an extremist. This is a grand smokescreen to hide the fact that the opposite is true. I say a government that lies to its people and collects data on all of its citizens is the extremist. I say a government that caters to the elite at the cost of the People is extreme. I say a government that disregards any part of the Constitution is radical and extreme.

These are precarious times and the future of the Nation is at stake. We must return the power to the People and see to it that the United States strives, not only for ourselves, but for our children, and our children’s children.
